Sheldon College Year 12 student, William Olufson is taking his shooting career to new heights, whilst managing to stay heavily involved in College life.

Will has demonstrated impressive talent and dedication to his shooting career over recent years and is currently training with Shooting Australia and Sporting Shooters Association of Australia. He has regularly qualified for zone and state competitions, including competing in QLD Olympic qualifying events, in which he has shot alongside Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist, Dan Samson, in the finals. Competing in various disciplines, Will shoots in both the U18’s Division, where he often takes home Gold, as well as in the Open Adult Competition, where he also regularly places.

Will’s success in shooting is also highlighted by the regular invitations he receives to train with the Australian and Olympic teams whenever they visit Brisbane. This is an incredible opportunity for Will as he aspires to one day compete in the Olympics.

Despite his external sporting commitments, Will continues to be heavily involved in College life, particularly in the Technology and Media arenas. Through Sheldon’s various programs, Will has represented Sheldon College at an International Robotics Lego League in Missouri, as well as having received his Certificate 3 in Aviation. Will is also a member of the ASTA Professionals Film, TV and New Media Program, assisting behind the scenes with major Arts Events and assemblies, where he has the opportunity to refine his live camera work, vision-mixing, directing and calling of the video broadcast productions, as well as creating media content.

Upon graduating at the end of 2021, Will is looking to further explore his passion and use the skills developed in these College programs by pursuing a career in the technology sector. With plans to also take his shooting career into the professional arena, it is clear that Will has an exciting future ahead.

Amidst the Olympics fever we are currently experiencing, it is exciting to know that we have a potential future Olympian in our midst right here at Sheldon College!
