On Friday 13 November, Mr Antoine Barnaart, Director of Confucius Institute QUT (CIQ) and Dr Philip Sun, Deputy Director of CIQ, attended the College’s full school Assembly to recognise the award recipients of the Chinese Karaoke Competition.

The Chinese Karaoke Competition provided Chinese Language Students with the opportunity to submit a video entry of them singing their selected song in Chinese for judging.

The judges from the Confucius Institute were incredibly impressed with the quality of work from each of the entrants and therefore generously increased the cash prizes from 5 winners to 7 winners.

The winners included:

1st Place –
Samantha Seager and Angela Seager performing ‘I Want It That Way’

2nd Place -
Stephanie Taylor performing ‘My Heart Will Go On’
Katerina Dugdale performing ‘Edelweiss'
Ashley Edgar performing ‘Gong xi Gong xi’

3rd Place –
Emma Wood and Lyncia Bahrett performing ‘You Look Pretty When You Smile’
Sarah Gibb, Madeline Mackay and Amelia Rotert performing ‘Seaweed Dance’
Natascha Tsao performing ‘Wo ai ni’

Before the departure of these special guests from the College, those in attendance at the assembly were treated to a live Chinese Karaoke performance from Mr Barnaart.

Congratulations to all the students involved. Your commitment and hard work towards your language studies certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.
