2019 started in fine style for members of the Sheldon Academy of Sport Tennis program who competed in the State Finals of the Brisbane International Schools Challenge, held in conjunction with the Brisbane International professional tournament at the Queensland Tennis Centre.  Backing up our status as Tennis Queensland’s Most Outstanding School for 2018, Sheldon College was one of only a very few schools to have qualified to compete in the finals of all three competition divisions of this state-wide primary school tournament.  Our results were highlighted by State Bronze for our young Orange Ball (2018 Year 5 and below) team of Lachlan Harriden (Year 2), Cashy Luo (Year 4), Arkin Amin-Patel (Year 2) and Acalia Shamim (Year 4), who performed exceptionally well against players considerably older than themselves, and were backed up by very solid performances from our Green Ball (Year 6 and below) and Red Ball (Year 4 and below) teams, all of which were competing as Regional Champions.  The competing students all played some quality tennis and had the opportunity to meet and seek autographs from such professionals as Nadal, Osaka, Nishikori, Pliskova and de Minaur, making it a week to remember for all involved.
