Our Camp Program Promotes Independence

Outdoor Education and Real-Life Relevance

Every year, at the beginning of Term 1, Sheldon College students from Years 5 to 12 participate in a challenging and supportive annual Outdoor Education program.

Students along with their teachers attend a number of exciting camp venues across South East Queensland and northern New South Wales, where they participate in a range of outdoor and environmental activities and challenges. The unique camping program provides students with the opportunity to form positive relationships with their peers and staff with whom they will be working throughout the year. Students along with their teachers participate in a range of activities including bike riding, abseiling, sailing, kayaking, fishing, camping, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing, snorkelling and rock climbing.

"The College Camping program provides a wonderful opportunity for our students in Middle and Senior College to commence the new College year in a positive and fun-filled manner."

Mrs Lisa Slender, Director of Student Services

Program Goals

Independence

Students are in an environment whereby they need to make decisions and take care of themselves and their belongings with the support of our dedicated and supportive staff. Many children thrive in such an environment as they learn to cope with adversity and deal with the challenges of the week. You can only imagine how proud they are when they have accomplished the tasks and activities of the week.

Outdoor Education

Camp week provides students with the opportunity to participate in a range of outdoor activities and programs which require them to utilize a range of outdoor survival and environmental skills. Students participate in challenges throughout the week whereby they learn such skills as abseiling, surfing, orienteering, fishing, rock climbing, cooking and camping. For many of our students these are the first opportunities they have to participate so actively in the outdoor education arena.

Real-Life Relevance

Camps provide the perfect opportunity to link new skills and strategies to the real world. Our programs ensure all students can link what they are doing to real world scenarios and relate their skills and knowledge to other situations where they may be needed in life.

STUDENT CAMP PROGRAM

Camps provide a sense of achievement for our students as they learn new skills and develop new friendships through a range of independent and group challenges in an outdoor educational setting.

Our Programs ensure all students can link what they are doing to real world scenarios and relate their skills and knowledge to other situations where they may be needed in life. Enjoy the video.
