Rehearsals are well and truly underway for Sheldon College’s 2019 production of Hairspray, the Broadway Musical.

The musical will follow Tracy Turnblad in a wonderful coming-of-age story, detailing her fearless attempts at chasing her dreams of becoming a star. A constant message of ending racial segregation and embracing peoples ‘differences’ will be an ever-present theme throughout the Musical.

With a number of leading roles and space for a large ensemble, this musical allows for a rich and diverse cast. Sheldon students will have the opportunity to add their own creative flair to create a point of difference from other Hairspray productions.

Julianne Moore, Head of Faculty – The Arts and also the Musical Director for the performance said “This musical makes for a positive return to what is already going to be another great school year. The students are already super excited to take to the stage and are really committed to this production. I am really looking forward to seeing the final product, whereby each of these children get the opportunity to shine.”

Sheldon College Year 12 student, Bence Major reiterated the positive impact that this musical has on his start to Year 12 at the College. He also added that he enjoys coming together with his peers in the orchestral pit as they assist one another in finding their own sounds, whilst also making great memories.

Stay Tuned to see this spectacular performance live, on stage at the Redlands Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) in April this year. The students are all delighted to take to the stage and unleash their inner selves to a new bouffant high.
