Sheldon College musicians set their sounds to the wind at the 134th Sailing Season at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Opening Day in September.

The Opening Day is the cornerstone and most enjoyed event in the Squadron calendar. It was the perfect opportunity for club members and visitors to gather in celebration of the Squadron, its fleet and the sport of sailing.

Over the last few years, Sheldon College bands have been a highlight of the event.  This year, Sheldon’s Big Band, Dixieland Band and Soul Band performed a mix of traditional Dixie Jazz sounds from New Orleans, up-tempo Jazz standards by international and Australian composers with Jazz vocal items, and the Soul Band performed Classic 60’s, and Top 40 soul hits for the crowds.

Sheldon College Performance Manager, Mr Alastair Tomkins said, “It was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the students’ musical talent with the local community, while soaking up the sunshine in the stunning Bayside precinct.”
