The construction of Sheldon College’s IAAF certified synthetic athletics track has supercharged the College's already strong athletics program, with nine Sheldon College students winning medals at the recent Queensland School Sport Track & Field Championships. 

Ella Peters (Gold in high jump, Gold in long jump and Silver in the 4x100m relay), Jamie Hiscock (Gold in the steeplechase with a world class time, and Silver in the 1500m), Will Morris (Gold in the steeplechase with a Championship record, and Bronze in the 1500m), Max Hooper (Silver in the 800m and Bronze in the 1500m), Taige Hooper (Silver in the 400m), Cathal Brennan (Silver in the 800m), Emily Witt (Silver in the 3000m), Leahrose Hooper (Bronze in the 3000m) and Alex Matthews (Bronze in shot put) all train in Sheldon Academy of Sport programs at the College. 

Director of the Sheldon Academy of Sport, Mr David Savage, paid tribute to the athletes, and to Head Athletics Coach, Mr Ben Norton. “These incredible results are testament to the quality of the coaches and facilities available here at Sheldon College, and to the dedication of the athletes in our programs,” he said. Seven of these nine students will now go on to represent Queensland at the upcoming National Championships, where a number of them have realistic expectations of medaling yet again.
