Several Sheldon College students were selected to attend a unique learning opportunity hosted by Cisco Brisbane – Girls Power Tech Global Mentoring Initiative. This special learning opportunity is hosted by Cisco at offices around the world in partnership with International Girls in ICT Day, an annual initiative organised by the United Nation’s International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Jessica Childs (Year 12), Alison Wu (Year 10), Ella Rhodes (Year 11) and Caitlin Wehl (Year 11) were all extremely pleased to be part of this Global Mentoring Initiative.

The jam-packed day of learning was designed to introduce the girls to different, yet exciting opportunities in the areas of ICT, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, as well as Entrepreneurial Learning. Throughout this event, students were mentored by Cisco employees, allowing for engagement in deep conversations with innovative women working in IT and engineering and delving into coding for robotics and AI.

The Sheldon College students who attended the event valued the Cisco Careers Panel – a look at the diverse roles within technology, the Face-to-Face Speed Mentoring session linked to Education and Career discussions, as well as finding enjoyment whilst listening to the different guest speakers.
