The picnic was part of a scripted program to encourage literacy development and interest by combining some of the children’s recent learning with real world experiences. It was an opportunity for students to explore unfamiliar vocabulary in an exciting and engaging way.
All the student participants were provided with an array of different foods to taste. Many of the students encountered new foods – some of which of they had never eaten before and others they had never even heard of.
Some of the foods sampled included Blackberries, figs, ginger, cinnamon, dates, cranberries and lemon butter (made by Mrs Ward herself) just to name a few.
The picnic proved to be a very successful experience for the children.
MiniLit is a special educational offering, offered by the College to students wanting to further develop their literary capabilities.
