On Thursday 13 August, Sheldon College said farewell to the Year 1 and Year 12 students as they put on their Pirate Hats and sailed off to Treasure Island.

Working in small groups, the Year 12’s assisted the younger students with reading their treasure maps, following the clues, overcoming the obstacles and eventually finding the buried treasure.

This experience proved invaluable for both the younger and older students. It allowed the Year 12’s to reflect on where they have come from as Junior College students and to provide them with another avenue by which they can continue to show leadership to the younger students who look up to them so much. Additionally, it assisted the Year 1 students to further connections with student leaders and to understand the importance of teamwork.

All the students were delighted to find the hidden treasure (ice blocks) in Pirate Gammie’s hidden chest.

The pirate treasuring hunting experience was enjoyed by both the Year 1 and Year 12 students alike. Many memories were made, laughter shared, and relationships built.
