Congratulations to Year 11 student, Grace Newlands, who was recently selected as the winner of the 2019 Photography Bright Awards hosted by Torrens University Australia.

Grace’s submission IDENTITY comprised three unique images that eloquently capture a diverse array of students and highlight how different angles can affect people mentally, physically and emotionally. The three main images reinforce that a diverse society leads to a diverse identity – meaning that every image can be and will be unique.

When judging her masterpiece, the Torrens University jury, made up of senior members of their academic team equipped with strong digital and design industry experience, stated - “Your portrait images are beautifully considered and captured.”

“Photography is all about understanding, controlling and utilising light and in this series, you have done exactly that whilst exploring the topic of identity, in particular amongst teenagers, a time when so much growth occurs,” they added.

In being named the winner of these prestigious awards, Grace won herself $1000 to go towards her interest in photography and the school also won $3000 to continue supporting educational outcomes of this nature.

Grace has a dedicated passion for all things Media which was recently highlighted when she was named Sheldon College’s Technical Producer of the Year at the College’s 15th annual Arts Academy Awards evening held earlier this year.

Congratulations Grace, on this outstanding achievement.
