2019 USA Basketball Tour

Our 2019 USA Basketball Tour consisting of 23 students and four staff have departed for New York

This is Sheldon College’s first international sporting tour and we are very excited to be offering this wonderful opportunity to our talented basketball teams.

The three teams attending the tour include students from Years 8 to 12 - Girls Varsity, Boys Varsity and Boys Junior Varsity. Each team will be proudly representing the College at tournaments in Texas.

Sheldon College has worked very closely with Showtime Basketball Tours who have assisted with co-ordinating a memorable and exciting itinerary for our students. This trip has been subsidised by several fundraising events organised by the students and staff, which included barbecues and a Casino Night.

This sporting experience of a lifetime will include sightseeing around New York as well as attending an NBA game, Brooklyn Nets versus Miami Heat at the Barclay Stadium, Brooklyn.  The students and staff will then fly to Dallas, where they will see another NBA game, Dallas Mavericks versus Minnesota Timberwolves being played at the American Airline Centre, Dallas, before sightseeing in Texas.

The tournaments commence on Thursday, 5 December at Community High School, with our players being immersed in the local culture during their homestay arrangements.

Following this, they will commence a road trip to San Antonio where our students will get to experience the Natural Bridge Caverns which will include a cave tour, high ropes and zip line. They will then visit the San Marco Shopping Outlet for some retail therapy.

The students will then continue their basketball experience by playing two local high school tournaments and staying in homestay arrangements, before flying to LA.

Their trip will culminate with two days at Disneyland and the California Adventure Park.  They will spend their final day sightseeing around Los Angeles and the Hollywood Hills, before returning home to Brisbane on 19 December, in time to share their wonderful stories with us before Christmas.

We wish all three teams the very best of luck and the whole Sheldon community will be encouraging and supporting them from across the seas!
