Distinctive Curriculum Offerings

For Students in Years 9 to 12


In Senior College, students begin their individually tailored pathway to becoming independent lifelong learners. 

We maintain the highest of standards in individual scholarship and work habits and Academic Staff work closely with each student to ensure success.

We engage passionate and inquiring minds by offering an extensive range of courses which allow the development of 21st century skills. Our unique curriculum approach ensures success with our students whereby they are positioned as expert learners who are flexible, confident, creative and intrinsically motivated. We empower our students to innovate and actively collaborate in authentic contexts to ensure preparedness for a dynamically changing world.

At Sheldon College, we encourage our students to strive for individual academic excellence. From entry to exit, we track performance through a range of tailored curriculum programs and assessment. Students are individually guided through their senior years to ensure the best educational outcomes possible.

Years 9 and 10

Study Options


A full-time academic program at Sheldon College consists of studying nine senior subjects.

All students in Years 9 and 10 study English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education (HPE).  Students then have the opportunity to elect three additional subjects.

Pastoral Care

Students have a weekly pastoral care lesson, whereby students and teachers discuss a range of topics appropriate to their age group – (i.e. time management, career choice, ethics, values, human relationships, anti-drugs, anti-smoking and anti-drinking). Year 10 students complete a Senior Education Training Plan in negotiation with parents and specialist staff who provide careers advice.

  • Dance
  • Drama 
  • Media Studies

  • Visual Art and Australian School of the Arts

Extension classes are provided for students who exhibit high academic ability. 

Years 11 and 12

Study Options


A full-time academic program at Sheldon College consists of studying six senior subjects. 

All students in Years 11 and 12 study the two subjects of English and Mathematics (Mathematics A or B). Students then have the opportunity to elect four additional subjects which best suits their academic goals and future pathways. 

Pathways to Success

We also recognise that as our students get older, the freedom to choose alternative timetables and pathways is very relevant. In accordance with this, each Wednesday students have an Options Afternoon, where they can pursue an activity of their choosing such as Teacher Tutorials, TAFE Courses, Personal Study, Part-Time work or Apprenticeship/Traineeships.
