The Sporting Facilities and Programs at Sheldon College are World Class

Sheldon College Sport offers a diverse range of sporting activities for students of all ages and levels of ability. The College is a member of The Associated Schools (TAS), fielding teams in Junior TAS competitions for students in Years 4 to 6, and TAS Greater Brisbane Conference (GBC) competitions for students in Years 7 to 12. In 2016, Sheldon College was the overall champion school in the GBC competition, claiming 25 team sport premierships and winning all three carnivals: swimming, cross country and athletics. In the Junior TAS competition, we won the top (blue) division at the cross country championship, also claimed the blue division athletics championship, maintained our status as a blue division swimming school and entered high numbers of teams into the participation-based team sporting fixtures.

The newly created Sheldon Academy of Sport bundles together our professionally coached sports of running, swimming, tennis and triathlon, the latter partnered by Triathlon Australia in a first-of-its-type agreement between an Australian Olympic National Sporting Organisation and a school, with the aim of enabling students in all such programs to develop to their maximum athletic potential. The track record of the coaches involved is exceptional, with our student athletes regularly competing for national titles.

Sheldon College also operates a highly competitive Basketball Club, competing in the Brisbane Southern Districts club competition at Carina, and a high quality girls’ Touch Football Club, competing in the Redlands Junior Touch Football Association competition. Additional interschool opportunities are provided to students in such sports as Australian Rules football (AFL) and equestrian.

School-based representative sport options are available to students via the College’s membership of Bayside District and Metropolitan East Region School Sport. In 2016, Sheldon College students set new records for their level of inclusion in such teams, with 191 selections into District teams, 84 selections into Metropolitan East teams and 19 selections into Queensland School Sport teams to contest National Championships.

The financial commitment made to sport at Sheldon College is clearly demonstrated by the quality of the facilities on offer. In early 2017, the College will become the first school on Brisbane’s southside to boast an IAAF certified 400 metre synthetic athletics track; while 2016 saw the construction of six, high quality, floodlit tennis courts and four first class cricket nets. These new facilities have been added to our existing multi-million dollar indoor sports stadium, modern gymnasium, eight lane heated swimming pool, enclosed commercial learn to swim centre, outdoor multipurpose courts, undercover playing areas and immaculately maintained natural turf playing fields.
