Partnerships formed with Business and Industry serve to provide quality input into curriculum planning and assessment. Strategic alliances with these organisations provide opportunities for our students to showcase outstanding achievements. Sheldon College has joined the Redland Chamber of Commerce and this affords us the opportunity to network with business and government agencies in our local area.
Sheldon College students will be encouraged to develop sound practices that are valued by the business community. Business and Industry Advisory committees are formed as part of Traineeship/Apprenticeship programs and as quality control for the Vocational Education and Training Framework requirements.
Our Year 11 Business students are offered the opportunity to attend the SeaWorld H.O.T.E.L. School for a three day program. Students who attend gain an overview of the possible career pathways for employees in a large hotel. They have the opportunity to participate in Work Experience along with a Responsible Service of Alcohol course during their stay.
Through our partnership with the Queensland College of Wine Tourism at Stanthorpe, the Year 12 Chemistry students engage in a practical laboratory session in state of the art Wine Science Laboratories. This enables the students to perform chemical wine analysis experiments that are unable to be completed in the school environment. Along with this they are exposed to a variety of areas of Chemistry through visits to local businesses. This live-in program enhances the students’ understanding of Wine Chemistry.
The concept of Government, University, TAFE, Schools and Industry working collaboratively is the way of the future. Importantly we are providing students with the opportunity to develop a sound work ethic which is highly sought after by employers.
