Percussion Ensembles and Drumlines

Percussion Ensemble I

Sheldon College's premier percussion ensemble, this group is one of the showcase performance ensembles within the College. Advanced students of Mallet (Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Marimba, Vibraphone), Timpani and untuned percussion (Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Kit etc.) are invited to audition for this group at the start of each new College year. This group presents music from a myriad of different styles, with a special focus on modern compositions that exploit innovative performance techniques.  This ensemble competes in both State and National Festivals and has previously won the National Title at the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod in Sydney.

Percussion Ensemble II

Sheldon College's second percussion ensemble is also one of the most popular ensembles in the College. Students in this group are regular performers on College Assemblies, they compete annually and have won both State and National titles in previous year’s. In 2017, this ensemble were the inaugural winners of the Queensland Percussive Arts Eisteddfod. Musical styles range from jazz to contemporary to film music.

Percussion Ensemble III

Some of our younger percussionists are invited to join this ensemble in which students use the full range of percussion equipment. Percussion Ensemble III competes annually in the QLD MusicFest competition and in 2015 and 2016 won a Platinum Award for their performance. In 2017, PEIII were runners up at the inaugural Queensland Percussive Arts Eisteddfod.

Percussion Ensemble IV

A selection of our youngest percussionists are invited to join this ensemble which introduces students to the full range of percussion equipment through the playing of repertoire, that is quite advanced for this age group. Percussion Ensemble IV competes annually in the QLD MusicFest competition and in 2015 and 2016 were awarded a Gold Award for their performance. In 2017, PEIV were winners of the inaugural Queensland Percussive Arts Eisteddfod.

Drumline I

One of the most visually-exciting groups in the College, the Sheldon College Drumline allows advanced percussionists to incorporate movement and choreography into their music-making. This ensemble participates annually in the Cleveland Anzac Day parade and features at the Royal National Agricultural Show (EKKA). Drumline compete in both State and National Festivals and were awarded the National Champions at the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod in 2015 (runners up in 2016). In 2017 DLI were winners of the inaugural Queensland Percussive Arts Eisteddfod.  DLI are the current featured drumline for the Brisbane Bullets and were invited to perform at the Rugby World Cup. Entry is via audition.

Instrumentation - Marching Snare Drums, Marching Tenor Drums (quints), Marching Bass Drums and Marching Cymbals.

Drumline II

Drumline II introduces our more advanced younger percussionists to Drumline performances.  This ensemble allows percussionists to incorporate movement and choreography to their music-making skills.  DLII performs annually at the Royal National Agricultural Show (EKKA) and in 2017 became the inaugural winners of the Queensland Percussive Arts Eisteddfod.
